Experience
• Prefer three years’ industry experience in a similar role.
• Prefer three years’ experience using Pro/Engineer, CATIA, or other design software.
• Good working knowledge of the fabrication of metal and plastic parts, inspection, assembly, and packaging techniques.
• In-depth knowledge of plastic injection molding, tooling, part & assembly design, and manufacturing processes.
• Good understanding of the economics involved in the design and manufacturing of products in a competitive market.
• Experience with process validation.
• Experience in Geometric Tolerancing & Dimensioning
• History of cost reduction efforts and knowledge of product cost estimating.
• Some experience or knowledge of regulatory requirements as they may apply to new product development, such as SAE, FMVSS, ECE, CCC, and ASTM requirements.
• TS16949 knowledge preferred but not (initially) required.
• Knowledge of quality concepts, including continuous improvement, lean manufacturing, etc.
• Good interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Excellent organizational skills.
Specific Skills / Training
• The ability to perform mechanical design reviews, including items such as tolerance stacking, material considerations, etc.
• Understanding of SPC and MSA and how to apply them to design and validation
• Good presentation skills: Ability to clearly and effectively communicate complex designs to other functional groups.
