Company History:
Two young entrepreneurs, S. Duncan Black and Alonzo G. Decker, founded a small machine shop in Baltimore, Maryland in 1910. They called it The Black & Decker Manufacturing Company. Their shop has grown beyond anything they could have imagined.
1910 – Company founded
1917 – Black and Decker patent the pistol grip and trigger switch on its power drill.
1920s- Company goes International with expansion into Canada, the UK and Australia
1940s – Black and Decker supports War efforts by producing products for Allied Forces.
1950s- International expansion continues with operations in South Africa and throughout Europe.
1970s – Sales top 2 Billion USD.
1980s – Black and Decker Acquires Emhart and Sales top 2.8 Billion USD
1990s – New DeWalt line of professional tools launched, Sales top 4.5 Billion USD
2005 – Black and Decker Sales top 6.5 Billion USD
